Empire 8 honors Bulger
MEN'S LACROSSE: Sophomore from IHC a big threat for Utica

Utica College sophomore Michael Bulger, a former Immaculate Heart Central player, was selected to the Empire 8 all-conference honorable-mention team.

Bulger led the Pioneers with 33 points, supplying 20 goals and 13 assists. He recorded a team-high 104 shots and started all 15 games. He's led the team in scoring two straight seasons.

Utica finished 4-11 overall, 2-6 in the Empire 8.

WRESTLING

MCHUGH NAMED TEAM CAPTAIN

Lowville's Matt McHugh has been named a captain for the Messiah College wrestling team for the 2008-09 season.

McHugh is a two-time, all-Empire Collegiate Athletic Conference selection at 184 pounds, winning honors last season as a junior.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

MOSHER COMMITS TO ARMY

Kaley Mosher, formerly of Philadelphia, has given a verbal commitment to play Division I soccer to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Mosher, a north country native, selected Army over several Division I teams, according to her father, Paul. She has been honored as a top player in the state in Virginia. She is a junior at Herndon High School in Herndon, Va.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

CALHOUN COMPLETES FIRST SEASON

Former General Brown athlete Stephanie Calhoun finished a successful first season with the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Calhoun was a freshman defender with the Tigers and played in all 14 games. She finished with 11 ground balls.

RIT went 5-8, 3-5 in the Empire 8.

SOFTBALL

DEVEINES CONTRIBUTES TO TITLE

Beaver River product Jenna Deveines on Saturday helped Rhode Island College win its third consecutive Little East conference tournament.

A Lowville native, Deveines (14-3) picked up the victory in the Anchorwomen's 13-4 decision over Keene State in the championship game. Deveines worked 41/3 innings, allowing five hits and one walk. Deveines appeared in three tournament games.
