Jefferson County's two development agencies — the Industrial Development Agency and the Job Development Corporation — have turned to one of their own to lead them while they search for a permanent executive director.
It is advantageous to have Donald C. Alexander, who has been IDA/JDC business development specialist, to step into the post on a temporary basis so business can go forward uninterrupted following the departure last week of James P. Fayle.
Now the IDA and JDC can take more time with a national search for a permanent successor to Mr. Fayle. Officials expect to fill the post permanently by mid- to late summer.
An extensive search is needed to ensure the selection of an executive director who can bring a broad vision to bear on how to promote development and encourage new business in the expanding Jefferson County economy.
