BRASHER FALLS — Floyd A. Wendt, 86, Massena, formerly of Brasher Falls, died Wednesday at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena.
Mr. Wendt began working at the Aluminum Company of America in Massena in 1943 and retired in 1983 from No. 140 Wire, Rod and Bar as a crane operator.
Born July 14, 1921, in Norfolk, son of Thomas L. and Myrtle Reed Wendt, he attended school in Norfolk and Pyrites and entered the Army on March 17, 1944. He served with the 530th Field Artillery Battalion and received an honorable discharge July 3, 1946, at the rank of corporal.
He married Catherine G. Brothers on March 14, 1951, at St. Patrick's Church. She died Oct. 20, 1985.
He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Alcoa's 25-Year Club, Tri-Town Senior Citizens, Parishville Hilltoppers and Deer River Grange.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Sandra and Arthur Cooke, Manchester; a brother, Kenneth, Potsdam; a sister, Geneva LaCoss, Canton; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Stephanie "Robin" Wendt, two brothers, Harley and Leonard, and a sister, Ruth Trombley, died before him.
A funeral Mass will be said at noon Monday at St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop.
