Two 10th Division soldiers from Fort Polk die in Iraq

Two soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division's 4th Brigade Combat Team were killed Monday in Baghdad during a mortar attack, the division's public affairs office said Thursday. Nine others from the brigade were injured.

Sgt. Mark A. Stone, 22, of Buchanan Dam, Texas, and Spc. Marcus C. Mathes, 26, of Zephyrhills, Fla., were killed. They were motor transport operators assigned to Company F, 94th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, which is based at Fort Polk, La.

Sgt. Stone and Spc. Mathes were on their second tour of combat duty in Iraq, the public affairs office said.

Also killed in the attack was Pfc. Adam L. Marion of the North Carolina National Guard.
