Carrie Bernhard and Richard Aldrich, Black River, and Pamela and Edward Brown, Theresa, announce the engagement of their children, Alicia A. Bernhard, Black River, and Travis E. Brown, Clinton.

Miss Bernhard, a 2002 graduate of Carthage High School, received an associate's degree in criminal justice from Jefferson Community College in 2004, a bachelor's degree in criminal investigation from SUNY Canton in 2006 and a bachelor's degree in sociology from SUNY Potsdam in 2007. She is a caseworker for the Children's Home of Jefferson County in Watertown.

Mr. Brown graduated in 1995 from Indian River High School, Philadelphia, and in 2005 with an associate's degree in human services from JCC. He is a secure-care treatment aide at Central New York Psychiatric Center, Marcy.

An Oct. 11 wedding is planned.
