Podvin's production, attracted attention
GREATEST ATHLETE NO. 12 EYE-POPPING STATISTICS: Watertown native set numerous marks at WHS, JCC
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2008

When Jennifer Podvin controlled the court, first at Watertown High School and then at Jefferson Community College, little girls were watching.

A rare combination of precision and power, Podvin put up numbers never seen before and inspired Watertown girls to pick up a basketball.

When the Watertown native graduated from WHS and JCC, she did so as each school's all-time leading scorer, with 1,052 and 1,245 points, respectively. She became the first female to reach 1,000 points for a career at both schools. Podvin scored a Watertown record 32 points in a game, grabbed more rebounds than any player in Cyclones history, registered Watertown single-season records for points and rebounds, and scored a record 640 points in one year at JCC.

The 6-foot forward was a sight to see. Wearing No. 22 and her signature glasses, her ponytail bobbing atop her head, Podvin could take over games with her aggressive style, barreling inside or stopping for a pull-up jumper. During a three-game period as a Watertown junior, Podvin totaled 77 points and 63 rebounds in three Cyclones wins and hit the winning foul shots in the final seconds in two of the games.

She was a Times All-North first-team selection as a senior.

At JCC, she experienced greater success, helping the Cannoneers to their first Region 3 title in any sport in 1992. Podvin scored in double figures in every game and won the region tournament MVP, scoring 31 points in the title game. JCC made the NJCAA Division III semifinals.

The following year, she won Mid-State Conference MVP honors for the season and playoffs and helped advance JCC to the NJCAA quarterfinals. She became the first JCC female athlete to be named a first-team NJCAA Division III All-American and was named state junior college women's basketball player of the year. JCC was 63-5 in her two years with the Cannoneers.

Now Jenny Stoll, 34, she married Brian Stoll, a deputy sheriff, on Nov. 3, 2007 in Watertown. She has resided in Florida for more than five years and now lives with her husband in Melbourne, Fla. She is a registered chiropractic assistant and still loves to play basketball, once competing regularly on an all-male team in Cocoa Beach, Fla., but now looking for a gym closer to her home.
