FORT DRUM — Army Col. Jeffrey Buchanan received his general's star at an on-post ceremony Friday.

He is the division commander's principle deputy responsible for oversight of current operations and deployment readiness.

According to media relations officer Benjamin E. Abel, Col. Buchanan was not officially promoted to general. He said that the ceremony was a traditional step toward becoming a general and that Col. Buchanan eventually would attain that rank.
